About the filament swatch

A labeled tag, printed in the real filament

Every filament swatch generator has the same trick: print the tag in the actual spool you’re cataloguing, and the tag is the color sample — no painting, no guessing which “gray” was which six months later. This one adds the brand, material, color name and (optionally) the nozzle/bed temperatures you used, a hole for stringing a whole collection onto one keyring, and a small patch of raised bumps as a quick tactile/gloss reference.

Building a collection

Print one tag per spool, in that spool’s own filament, and string them all onto a single split ring through the keyring hole. Since each real color needs its own actual filament loaded, there’s no “print several colors at once” — that’s the normal, one-at-a-time way a swatch library gets built up as you buy filament.

Printing

Prints flat, face up, with no supports needed. For engraved text, a contrasting paint or marker in the recesses helps at a glance; raised text needs nothing extra.

FAQ

Why is there no “two colors” option? The whole point of a swatch is that it is the filament — the tag is a single, real color by design, not a preview of one.

What’s the bump patch for? A quick tactile and visual reference for how this filament actually finishes (glossy, matte, textured) once printed — something a flat photo or a written note can’t capture.

Can I fit a whole roll’s worth of info? The color name, material and brand line, and a temperature line are what fit comfortably on a small tag. For more detail, a showTemps toggle drops the temperature line, or an engraved back could be added by hand in a slicer later.
