How to measure

Measure the inside of the drawer — left to right, front to back — at the bottom, where the tray sits, not at the top edge (drawer sides often flare). Then measure the height from the drawer floor up to a little below the top edge, so the drawer still closes with the tray in. The clearance setting leaves a small gap so the assembled tray slides in and out; 0.5–1 mm is typical for a plastic or wooden drawer.

Laying out compartments

Every divider runs the full width of the space it splits, so every compartment is a clean rectangle. Select a compartment and split it left/right or front/back, then drag the dividers — they snap to whole millimetres and can’t squeeze a compartment below a printable size. With the keyboard, Tab to a divider and use the arrow keys (hold Shift for 10 mm), or press Delete to remove it — the side with more compartments keeps its layout and grows to fill the gap. Undo and Redo are always there, and Quick grid lays out an even grid to start from.

Front of the drawer is the bottom of the diagram. The layout is stored in the link, so you can share or bookmark it.

Print settings

• Bigger than your bed? Set the bed size and the tray is split into the fewest equal pieces that fit, with a few millimetres of margin. Each piece prints flat on its floor with no supports.
• Dovetail joints slide together vertically — tongue on one piece, groove on the next, with a small clearance so they fit off the printer. Butt joints are flat faces you glue.
• Downloads: the STL download is a zip with one file per piece; the 3MF has every piece as a separate object, laid out on plates. The preview shows the assembled tray.
• Layer height and walls: 0.2 mm layers; 1.6 mm walls are four perimeters on a 0.4 mm nozzle. Thicker walls make a sturdier tray, thinner ones leave more room inside.
• Finger scoops add a curved ramp along the front of each compartment so small parts slide out.

FAQ

Why are my compartments a little smaller than I drew? The walls take space: each divider is one wall thick, and there’s a wall around the outside. The tray as a whole is also a bit smaller than the drawer, by the clearance.

Will it fit my drawer exactly? The assembled tray is the drawer’s inside size minus the clearance, in both directions. If your drawer isn’t a perfect rectangle (curved fronts, rails), measure the narrowest points.

What are the labels underneath? When a tray is split, each piece is engraved on its underside — A is the front row, 1 is the left column — so you can put it back together without guessing.

Can I print it on a small printer? Yes — enter your bed size. A 220 × 220 mm bed handles a 560 × 420 mm drawer in nine pieces.
